About

I love to eat, look at food, take pictures of food, and cook.  Naturally in 2009 I started this blog with its central purpose being food.  With a huge fondness for sweet and salty things, I merged savory and sweet with my last name Vu to create saVUryandsweet.

I was raised on my mother’s Vietnamese cooking, and never knew how good I had it until I moved out.  Left to my own devices, the first years away from home were full of culinary freedom and disasters.  I’d like to think I’ve grown a bit in my kitchen skills and waistline.  Now I’ve had my fill of other cuisines and I long for the comfort of mom’s Vietnamese.  Join me in my kitchen and on my travels as I explore and discover my culinary identity and heritage.

TEN THINGS:

  1. I eat chipotle at least once a week.  Burrito bowl, no beans/fajita, half steak, half carnita, pico, lettuce, sour cream on the side.
  2. Growing up, I craved cafeteria food and fast food more than Vietnamese.
  3. I am accountant by day.
  4. I live to eat.
  5. I am a meatatarian.
  6. I try to go meatless once a week.
  7. Dinner is my favorite meal of the day.
  8. I’m a native of Northern Virginia, currently residing in Ashburn, VA.
  9. I spend at least an hour every weekend meal planning.
  10. I’m the picky person who asks for items not on the menu or modifies dishes, hey if you have the ingredients in the kitchen why not?

Go to France…….The cuisine in France is fabulous. Stop by a patisserie and have a white chocolate tart with raspberries. Yummy! Go to the Marais district of Paris for the best buckwheat crepe that you will have ever put in your mouth. The best meals was of course when I was invited to dinner at the homes of my French friends! Utopia! Take a day trip to Brussels……If you have not had a real Belgian waffle which is thick like cake drizzled with Belgian chocolate then you have not lived……
