Red Hook Lobster Pound DC

Working in Herndon is a fabulous commute from Ashburn, but the lunch options are less fabulous.  So imagine my glee when the building management announced that Red Hook Lobster Pound was coming to the office.  I haven’t tried all the DC Food Trucks, but I’ve had a few and Red Hook is currently in first place of the ones I’ve tried.  Expect to pay about $20+ for lunch but if you’re in the mood for some wicked lobstah it’s a good splurge.

WHAT I TRIED: Arnold palmer, clam chowder, Maine and Connecticut style lobster rolls.

VUrdict: Arnold – refreshing and good.  Chowdah – loaded with clams and sells out fast, VERY GOOD.  I originally though I’d prefer the Connecticut over the Maine, but it ended up being the opposite.  Connecticut (butter) was too rich for me, while the Maine (mayo) was lightly dressed with a touch of lemon to cut through the richness.  I thought the Maine would be lobster bits swimming in mayo, but it was lobster hunks perfectly dressed and balanced.

TIPS: They do take credit cards.  The line was a steady 100 people from 11.30am to about 12.30pm, so get there early so you don’t have to wait.  They also sell whoopie pies which in my excitement I forgot to order.  Red Hook also offers a variety of Maine natural and organic sodas.  I’ve had the blueberry on a previous visit where the husband ate the entire roll without sharing… and the blueberry soda was good.  And if you’re thinking whoa can’t believe this girl ate all that, don’t worry unlike some people I shared my lobster rolls.  Give this place a whirl!
